Tess Hartmann

Certified Postpartum Doula, Certified Lactation Counselor

St. John's and Surrounding, virtual

Somewhere inside, Tess has always known that supporting new families was the work she was meant to do. She still remembers vividly holding her close friend's newborn so she could have a moment to herself — the quiet of being the calm in the chaos, and watching her friend's whole energy shift simply knowing she wasn't alone. Before becoming a mother herself she pursued her training as a postpartum doula and lactation professional — a calling that felt less like a career choice and more like an answer to something she had always carried.

With seven years of experience and certifications in postpartum doula care, lactation support, and meditation teaching, Tess brings a wealth of knowledge and a deeply personal warmth to every family she works with. She supports clients both in person and virtually, meeting moms and families wherever they are — literally and emotionally.

As a postpartum doula, Tess's role is to care for your family after you bring your new bundle home — with empathy, evidence-based knowledge, reliable referrals, and genuine care. Her background in meditation also means she can offer tools for calm and grounding during a season of life that can feel anything but. And whenever possible, a little humour too. She believes there is real strength to be found in laughter, especially in life's most challenging and tender moments.

Now a mother of two girls herself, Tess understands intimately the beauty, the overwhelm, and the everything-in-between of the postpartum period. Whether you're navigating feeding challenges, recovering from birth, or simply trying to find your footing in those early weeks, her goal is simple: to make sure no new mom ever feels alone in it.

Tess was an absolute lifesaver during our first few months home with our son. From the first time we met, my partner and I felt an instant connection with her. She was a calming presence, and a trusted confident. Her knowledge and patience were instrumental to helping us navigate some significant breastfeeding struggles. She is also extremely well connected and respected within the community, and connected us with people we needed to help us navigate the early post-partum days. Words do not do justice to the incredible help and support that Tess provided us! I still find myself saying “I miss Tess” six months out! If we have another baby, one of the first calls I make will be to Tess. I can’t recommend her enough!! “- Leslie Redmond

Tess is such a lovely, kind and caring person and the service she offers is so amazing.

She was a huge help to me with my second baby (I wish I knew about her for my first). I’m not someone who easily asks for help, so I loved that she would just suggest the most helpful things that she could do, whether it was cleaning up dishes, making energy bites, entertaining my toddler or simply holding my baby so I could shower or nap.

Beyond physically helping, she was also a great person to talk to. She has two kiddos of her own so she’s been through it all herself. Having someone to listen, who understands, and can validate your feelings is so nice. Her experience with lactation education makes her super knowledgeable to help you with any feeding issues.

Tess has been such a huge help in so many ways as I navigated the first few months of the hardest chapter of my life. I would highly recommend her to anyone having a baby!” - Valerie Ball
