Michelle Sturtevent
Hi, I'm Michelle! I have been passionate about women's health, autonomy, confidence, and education for many years, and after the birth of my second son, I began conceptualizing how I could give my passion some life and purpose. Navigating parenthood myself, I hear many stories, both sad and beautiful, of other birthing people trying to navigate this crazy world we suddenly live in. My focus is on helping and witnessing all kinds of people to write their birth stories themselves, their way. Peace, empowerment, self-awareness, integrity, and openness are my guiding principles in all the work that I do.
I am offering Birth and Labour Doula and a Postpartum Doula services in the St. John's and surrounding area (currently certifying with Doula Training Canada). I am also working towards my Perinatal Education Certificate with DTC, and aim to begin offering child birth classes starting in early 2022. I have training with the Rebozo (Gina Kirby University), respectfully and reverently keeping to and honouring the indigenous Mexican traditions and techniques of the Rebozo. I also have education in helping clients with diabetes, or who may be at risk of developing gestational diabetes, a common and normal part of pregnancy.
As a member of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, I seek to provide care and services to all kinds of people and family structures. I am passionate about equality and fairness, and facilitating peace and understanding is a big part of my philosophy.
In my spare time I like making art, gaming, hiking, and caring for all my resident critters. I share my home with a dog, two cats, two bunnies, three freshwater aquariums, and an axolotl (an aquatic salamander native to Mexico). I work hard every day to teach my children to respect and honour all life no matter how small or weird.
