Karen Clarke (she/her)

Certified Postpartum Doula, Childbirth Educator

St. John's and Surrounding

My Open Book Approach:

Evidence-based advice and honest conversations about pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. I provide parents with the education and supports to prepare for birth, baby, and postpartum that reduce family stress and the likelihood of traumatic birth experiences and postpartum mental health issues.

I build trusting relationships with families, help them prepare while they're pregnant, AND provide informational, practical, and hands-on supports postpartum. I am there to answer all the questions - nothing related to birth and postpartum is off limits.

About Me:I have bachelor's degrees in sociology and social work, as well as a master's degree in social work. I am finalizing my postpartum doula certification with Doula Training Canada. I have been a registered social worker working with Government in various capacities related to child and family wellbeing since 2008.

I specialize in wellbeing, brain development, trauma, prevention and early intervention, perinatal and infant mental health, solutions-focused and narrative therapy, and collaborative practice. I am a member of the Perinatal Mental Health Alliance NL's Board of Directors and the Vice President of Board of Directors for the Atlantic Summer Institute on Healthy and Safe Communities.

Testimonials:

“Having the information and support from Karen before and after our baby was born was invaluable. I am finding it hard to find the words to really portray what it meant because I really don’t know how I would have done it without her. She is loving, kind and very passionate about what she does. I highly recommend her services.”

“Connecting with Karen before becoming a mom was one of the best decisions I made prior to my little one’s arrival! Her support ensured I was prepared for my labour and the postpartum period. No matter if I had questions about my own recovery, breastfeeding, sleep, or anything related to my son’s development, Karen was able to provide me with invaluable support while affirming I was doing a great job. I am positive my postpartum period would have been a lot more challenging without her help.”

“We are so glad to have worked with Karen. She was a great help to us as first-time parents. There were lots of things we thought we knew- but we didn’t realize how much we didn’t know. She provided valuable insight into prenatal, postpartum life with baby, including the relationship between mom and dad and breastfeeding tips—we wanted to breastfeed our little one and when she arrived, Karen went above and beyond to help us reach that goal. We highly recommend her, especially if you are first time parents.
