About Us
Finding Inspiration in Every Turn
The Doula Collective of Newfoundland and Labrador is a group of women dedicated to supporting parents before, during and after birth. As doulas, we recognize childbirth as an experience that parents will remember for the rest of their lives and are honoured to be a part of this special event.
The DCNL maintains a code of ethics and unified Standards of Practice to which all member doulas must adhere. These documents outline our commitments to you and your family: safety, legality, and quality care. You can read all the details by clicking the downloads below.

Testimonials:
“Having the information and support from Karen before and after our baby was born was invaluable. I am finding it hard to find the words to really portray what it meant because I really don’t know how I would have done it without her. She is loving, kind and very passionate about what she does. I highly recommend her services.”
“Connecting with Karen before becoming a mom was one of the best decisions I made prior to my little one’s arrival! Her support ensured I was prepared for my labour and the postpartum period. No matter if I had questions about my own recovery, breastfeeding, sleep, or anything related to my son’s development, Karen was able to provide me with invaluable support while affirming I was doing a great job. I am positive my postpartum period would have been a lot more challenging without her help.”
“We are so glad to have worked with Karen. She was a great help to us as first-time parents. There were lots of things we thought we knew- but we didn’t realize how much we didn’t know. She provided valuable insight into prenatal, postpartum life with baby, including the relationship between mom and dad and breastfeeding tips—we wanted to breastfeed our little one and when she arrived, Karen went above and beyond to help us reach that goal. We highly recommend her, especially if you are first time parents.

I have been self-employed for the last 14 years, co-owning and operating Chinched Restaurant and Deli with my husband, Shaun. I am a graduate of The Culinary Arts Program from Holland College, PEI, where I met Shaun. Before opening Chinched, I traveled and cooked along the eastern seaboard.
I am the proud mother of two children, Vivienne and Julien who are earthside, and had identical triplet boys, A, B, and C, who we lost at 21.5 weeks gestation in 2019 after exhausting all resources to bring them home.
In recent months, I have begun my doula training with Doula Training Canada and feel honoured to help other families with their birth journeys. I started my doula business Nourishing Motherhood with the intent on specializing in High Risk Pregnancy and Pregnancy and Infancy Loss.
I love cooking, hiking, traveling, all things birth, and spending time with my family.

My name is Samantha, and I am very excited that I could potentially be supporting you soon! I am the first certifying doula in Central Newfoundland, servicing Clarenville, Gander and Grand Falls hospitals. I am excited to help change the birth culture in this province and to provide this incredible service to the women in this area.
I am originally from Nova Scotia, but have been living in Newfoundland for almost 7 years. I have been working as a paramedic for the last 10 years, and have lots of experience in the healthcare field. I am confident in my abilities, able to remain calm during stressful situations, and can pass that calm on to others around me. Although I love my work, I'm ready for a change, and have always wanted to be a part of this wonderful moment in people's lives. I have a strong passion for supporting women during their births, and believe that all women deserve to have their wishes heard and respected.
I am also excited to be able to give the support team the confidence to be an integral part of the birthing process, and more than just observers. Your family knows you better than anyone, and so know the best way to support you. I'd love to help them be everything you need and more! My hope is to make you feel empowered and to help you take control of this important moment. I know that, with the support of your family and myself, you will rock this!
Feel free to contact me any time. I look forward to hearing from you soon to set up your complimentary first meeting!

My name is Tess, supporting you through your fourth trimester I will hold space for who you were before the birth of your new baby, and help you on your journey after they arrive. So much excitement, attention, worry, stress, care, hope, and love surround the first three trimesters with a
focus on bringing a healthy baby earth side. Birthing parents and their partners need just as much care and support once their baby is born.

When a family is born or enlarged it is a profound and permanent life change for the entire unit. As a postpartum doula, my role is to care for your family after you bring your new bundle(s) home. I do so with empathy, evidence-based knowledge, reliable referrals, care and whenever
possible, humour. I believe there is strength held in laughter as we face our most challenging moments.

With a B.A. and M.A. I have spent the past decade working in multiple levels of government and most recently as an advocate and communicator at a local not-for-profit. I was lucky to have been welcomed for the early days postpartum for friends and family. I did what I could to provide
calm, steady support wherever I saw it may be needed. During these moments I felt a shift, a knowing, that this was the work I was meant to be doing; and so, I completed my postpartum doula training in 2019.

TESTIMONIALS
"Tess was a bright light in our home after each of our children were born! Seamlessly slotting into our family dynamic, Tess stepped in exactly where we needed her (meals, nursery organization, errands, sibling care). Her kind, easy-going nature (and witty enthusiasm!) provided much needed companionship and gentle encouragement for the first few weeks of adjusting to life with a newborn. I feel very lucky to have had her by my side for my postpartum experiences"
-Gabi (mom of two)

"The weeks and months after birth are wonderful, but also a challenging time to navigate and adjust to your new normal. After my little guy was born, Tess helped me do just that. I remember one particular instance, about a month after giving birth, when I was really struggling with breastfeeding. Tess validated my feelings and gave me evidence-based practical advice, including who to reach out to for additional support. At almost one year postpartum, I am still happily breastfeeding, and I attribute a lot of this success to her. Tess is extremely passionate about supporting moms and their babies to ensure they have the most positive postpartum experience. I cannot think of a better person to support ones postpartum journey than her"
-Julia (first time mom)
